The project's main goal is to empower the target group to integrate into their local surroundings successfully, have access to the national social protection system and establish stable living circumstances. The project also aims to support refugee and migrant children in their inclusion and educational integration by offering age and culture-specific programmes where they can build relationships. This shall positively affect their academic performance as well as mental well-being. Menedék also aims to promote systemic change through a number of capacity-building and advocacy actions.

Project activities:

  • complex psycho-social support (e.g. access to health care, housing, employment, education, administrative issues, legal counselling)
  • supporting labour market inclusion (e.g. access to decent work opportunities, information provision and legal counselling)
  • online and in-person integration courses (Hungarian classes)
  • identification and referral of children at risk, also in cooperation with the national child protection and child welfare system/local municipalities/professionals in primary care (e.g. nurses’ network, family care services, with special attention to children with TP status)
  • school integration support (e.g. subject tutoring  and Hungarian language development in-person and online, school enrolment support)
  • support of unaccompanied and separated children (individual case management, improving mental health and psychosocial wellbeing, school enrolment support)
  • awareness-raising activities in educational institutions
  • capacity building (training and individual mentoring for partner NGOs, refugee-led organisations and institutions working with the target group)
  • advocacy actions in cooperation to support a more inclusive national system and facilitate the target group’s access to services
