This project is come off by the support of Natinwide Guiltpreventing Centre Period of the project: 1. April 2005 – 30.September 2005 Total: 643.000 HUF Through the social work with the migrants, it is clear that most of the victims who once or more suffered in violence are women and children. One of the most successful way to prevent becoming victims is to invite the different groups of refugees into the representational programmes.  This programme, the „Representational youth group to prevent becoming victims” is a test- project, because we have never had this kind of project before.

Target audience:

We chose the members of the Host station in Debrecen, and the youth, who can participate in the representational trainings without resorting to an interpreter. The members of the group were girls ages 12-18, who grew up in a family with many children or in a family with hard social conditions.

Activities:

This project came true through 3 elements. Beyond the processing of the different themes and visiting buildings, monuments, we organized common programmes to make the trainings more „colorful”. Through the trainings we could talked about six important themes: identity, healthcare, contacts, sexuality, violence and deviance. The trainings were held in Debrecen, in the office service department of the Menedék Association. There were 13 different occasions. All of them were really successful because of the interactive games, simulation games and movie-screenings. Through these programmes we could get rid of the stress among the participants. The achievement of the trainings were that the children started to ask questions about things they were interested in but were previously too afraid to ask about.  The most important things were put down in writing and we gave some paper to the children with lot of information on it. We visited buildings and monuments 5 times, where the participants could got some information about the places where the leaders of the training work.  In the gynecological surgery section the girls asked a lot of questions. Our visit to the cosmetician was the most popular place because many of the members wanted to choose this job after finishing their studies. These programmes could reduce the fear of the doctors and the handlings. Through these representations they got useful information about hygiene, attending to skin and about the family formulation.

We visited the cinema, theatre and circus which were the starting points to come to know something about the Hungarian culture, the different jobs, and the material needs.
The programmes out of the camp made the training more interesting and more anomalous.

Outcomes:

We organized 23 meetings instead of 16, which was the achievement of the interest of the participants. Unfortunately it came up that the migrant children get really slight ratification from their families and that’s why this is a very good opportunity to make their identity more powerful.

We can say that the project was successful because of the positive feedback of the participants and their need to organize more trainings.
They got information which can help them when they are not so confident, and Menedék gave them brochures which can be used in every situation if they feel it necessary.

We plan to start more representation programmes for the vulnerable groups in light of this positive feedback.
