‘A Face to the Story, the issue of unreturnable migrants in detention’ is a project funded by the European Program on Integration and Migration (EPIM) and realized by the Menedék – Hungarian Association for Migrants in cooperation with the Flemish Refugee Action (Belgium), Detention Action (UK), France Terre D’Asile (France), and European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE, France). The project runs between September 2012 and February 2014.
Within the project, partners examine the situation of unreturnable migrants in detention at the national level by conducting a qualitative research (both field and desk research). By presenting the personal stories of (ex-)detainees, the aim of the project is to raise awareness on their situation and perspectives, with special attention to the harmful impact of detention on their life. Based on the results received from the analysis of their situation, specific national policies and the national context, recommendations are formulated for national governments and EU institutions on how to deal with unreturnable migrants and find solutions for them.
The partners will summarize the main results of the research and their recommendation in a report. Dissemination events will be organized both at the national level and EU level in order to inform professionals and the public about the various aspects of being unreturnable and to give an insight into the situation and perspectives of unreturnable migrants.
In January 2014, a communication campaign will be organized (using various means of media, e.g. website, brochure, news letters, facebook campaign) to call attention of policy makers and the broader public and to promote a debate on the issue of unreturnable migrants in detention.
